Use recurring transactions for regular income and expenses
Recurring transactions help you track money events that happen on a schedule. Instead of entering the same rent, subscription, bill, paycheck, or allowance again and again, you can create one recurring template and let AZ Money Manager create future transactions for you.
What recurring transactions are
A recurring transaction is a saved template for an income or expense that repeats over time. The template stores the same details as a normal transaction:
- income or expense type
- amount
- account
- category
- description
- repeat schedule
- optional end rule
When the next scheduled date arrives, AZ Money Manager creates a normal transaction from that template. The generated transaction appears in your regular transaction list, so it is included in your totals, statistics, and reports.
Why recurring transactions are useful
Recurring transactions are useful when the same kind of money movement happens regularly. For example:
| Use case | Example |
|---|---|
| Regular bills | Internet, electricity, phone plan, rent |
| Subscriptions | Streaming, software, cloud storage |
| Regular income | Salary, allowance, freelance retainer |
They help you keep your records complete even when you forget to open the app on the exact day something happens.
Create a recurring transaction
- Open AZ Money Manager.
- Add a new income or expense.
- Enter the amount, account, category, date, and description.
- In the Recurring section, choose how often it should repeat.
- Choose when it should end.
- Save the transaction.
The transaction you save is the first occurrence. AZ Money Manager then creates future occurrences from the recurring template.
Choose a repeat schedule
You can choose one of these repeat options:
| Option | What it means |
|---|---|
| Does not repeat | Creates only the transaction you are saving now. |
| Every day | Creates the next transaction one day later. |
| Every week | Creates the next transaction seven days later. |
| Every month | Creates the next transaction in a future month. |
| Every year | Creates the next transaction in a future year. |
For monthly transactions, you can also use the last day of the month. This is helpful for bills or income that should happen at the end of every month.
If you choose a monthly repeat on the 30th or 31st, some months may not have that day. AZ Money Manager warns you when this can affect future occurrences.
Choose when it ends
Recurring transactions can end in different ways:
| End rule | What it does |
|---|---|
| Never | Keeps creating future transactions until you pause or end it. |
| On date | Stops after a selected date. |
| After number of occurrences | Stops after a set number of generated transactions. |
If the end rule means only the first transaction will be created, the app shows a warning so you know no future recurring transactions will be generated.
Manage recurring transactions
You can manage recurring templates from Settings > Recurring. From there, you can review the next scheduled date, open a template, update its amount, account, category, description, or status, and choose what happens next.
Recurring templates can have these statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Future transactions can be created automatically. |
| Paused | Future transactions are temporarily stopped. |
| Ended | Future transactions will no longer be created. |
Paused templates can be resumed later. Ended templates keep the transactions that were already created, but they do not create new future transactions.
Edit a generated transaction
Generated transactions are normal transactions in your list. You can open and edit an individual generated transaction if that one occurrence needs a different amount, category, note, or account.
If you want to change future occurrences, open the recurring template instead of only editing one generated transaction.
